Episode 02 “Rufus Vs. Rufus” - HIS WORST FEARS

This episode gave me a great opportunity to do some character designs, something I don’t get much chance to indulge in. The Brocoli Monster was one of the earliest concepts I did for the show .It seemed an obvious design to me; the only element that didn’t make it into the show were its “leafy fingers” which were replaced by two smaller florets for arms and fists as these had already been filmed striking the actors on the green screen stage.

The Underpants Monster or “Sockolofocus” was great fun to design. My original idea had it forming out of a tornado of dirty laundry that swept across the floor of it’s lair. The lair would have been a colossal rusting washing machine half submerged in a nightmare landscape of dirty socks pants and tights ( a quick concept for this is shown above).

I pitched a bit above the shows budget with that one so they asked for a cheaper alternative which was the dwarf version that inflated itself like a sail by sucking in air and one of Rufus’ companions at the same time.

The finished version was closer to my initial design
